20 Gen X Memes for People Who Aren't Millennials Nor Baby Boomers
A trip down memory lane.
Gen X is the generation that includes people born between 1965 and 1980. Their current age is around 45 to 60 years old. These people aren't old, but they definitely have lived a while. I'm not a part of that demographic; take that as you please. But I know quite a lot about them, because my parents are Gen X. As a Gen Z — no. I'm not a millennial, and I'm an adult — It is funny when my parents or their friends start thinking about how many years ago I was born. They feel a bit old, but it also evokes their nostalgia. They start thinking about when they were my age and what they were doing at that moment in life. Everything was very different; people didn't rely on devices like cellphones to communicate, so they had to make the effort to go to someone's house to talk to them. It's amazing to have the opportunity to hear the stories of people who lived before us, even before the internet was a thing. We are so focused on what we have now, but we should hear what life was like before. After all, we could learn a thing or two from them.
I love watching "old" movies with my parents, the ones they used to watch when they were young adults. There are so many classics that I could recommend from that time, like The Breakfast Club, Heathers, Rambo, and Back to the Future. These are classics that you must have watched. But maybe if you are Gen X, you haven't realized all the things that are weird to us, younger people, about those movies. There are things that stick with us when watching them that we almost cannot comprehend. Of course, the fact that in these movies, they have no access to the internet was shocking as a kid, especially when they showed a TV that was in black and white. I always thought that was from a much older time. But that is not the only thing that feels weird to us. Something that always leaves me thinking is when they smoke in these movies. Especially because they do it everywhere, no matter if it's a classroom, a doctor's appointment, or if the person doing it was carrying a child. That wasn't an issue at the time. Luckily, we have advanced a lot in science, and now we know all their contraindications, but it's still pretty weird to see it in movies.
A lot has changed in the last few decades. This new generation is very different from Gen X. The world has completely changed in almost every aspect, but that doesn't mean we should just focus on the current state of it. There is a past, and it's important to keep in contact with it; we learn, we value, we get inspired. We need to know what happened before our time to know how to manage in this day and age. So listen to the stories; hear your parents or grandparents. They have interesting stories to tell, and we have ears to listen to them.
